Mrs. Nancy Cinney is the sixth grade teacher at Holy Cross School. She feels right at home with the welcoming, faith-filled Holy Cross community and is very excited about working all year with the sixth graders. Mrs. Cinney loves to help young people excel at academics, discover their passion for different subjects, and deepen their faith.
As an adult convert to Catholicism, Mrs. Cinney has a deep appreciation of our faith and loves sharing it with her students as we journey together as God’s people. Her teaching philosophy includes igniting enthusiasm in her students, helping them discover their talents through various cross-curricular projects, and guiding them as they navigate their way into the teen years. Above all, she believes that learning should include active engagement and lots of fun!
Before joining Holy Cross, Mrs. Cinney taught junior high Literature and Language at St. Paschal Baylon School for twelve years and substituted at St. Jude the Apostle School and La Reina High School. Previously, she taught Literature and the Arts and English for five years at Stanford University and also served as an editor and writer for business clients for several years. Mrs. Cinney studied Renaissance English Literature and earned her BA at the University of California at San Diego and her MA at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she completed all class work and exams for her doctorate in English Literature. She taught at the two campuses for eight years. Currently, she is completing her California Teaching Credential in English through California Lutheran University.
Mrs. Cinney and her husband, Jim, live in Westlake Village with their two cats, Socks and Murphy. They are the proud parents of five adult children and the delighted grandparents of ten wonderful grandchildren. Whenever she can, Mrs. Cinney works in her garden, reads mysteries and histories, goes for walks on the beach, and attends Shakespeare plays.
