Welcome to a new year at Holy Cross School! We are all so excited to have everyone back! Today was a joyful first day filled with laughter, love and learning. I want to say thank you for your warm welcome into the Holy Cross family and pray that this year will bring untold blessings on our school. As students transition back into school mode I want to share with you a piece of advice from psychologist Dr. Tim Hogan regarding the morning transition time:
Creating fun and soothing rituals can help children make the transition from waking up to getting off to school. For example, help your children wake up gradually by gently rubbing their back, playing their favorite music in the background and giving them a positive thought to help rouse their tired brain. You might say, “I can just see God smiling now that you are awake!” I often tell my children, “You know, I just have this feeling that something wonderful is going to happen in your life today.”
Also, breakfast does not have to mean morning mayhem each day. Turn breakfast into a meaningful ritual, simply by setting the table, lighting a candle, and preparing a simple meal.”
Here at Holy Cross we strive to help every person feel connected, safe and valued. We know that our brains work best when we feel safe and loved. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to a blessed and successful year for all of us here at Holy Cross.
A few housekeeping items and routines to note:
Please stay with your car outside in the carpool lane so that we can smoothly move that lane through the parking lot.
Please be on time to school so that your student’s have the best advantage to having a stress free morning as possible which will help them be ready for the day’s learning experience.
We will have assembly every Monday morning and on the other mornings students will have prayer and pledge within their own classrooms. We will have multiple opportunities to come together as a school. If students are here before 7:50 they will go to the before care room and teachers will come and pick them up at 7:50.
Please read daily with your child to develop a love for reading.
Share school experiences with your student so that you are aware of his/her school life.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
Please consider joining our school volunteer program as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities:
1) Teacher-led instructional support, usually in the classroom
2) Reading with children who need extra help
3) School-wide events
4) Art Trek program
5) Outreach and recruitment of parent and community volunteers
The wonderful Holy Cross staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to the year ahead!
Peace and Blessings,
