Altar Serving
Students in grades four through eight are trained to become Altar servers through our parish ministries at San Buenaventura Mission. This training allows students to Student’s grade 4-8 may participate throughout the year serving for school masses and parish events. Students must be trained through the parish.

Athletics
After school sports program for football, volleyball, girls basketball and boys basketball is available for students in grades 5-8. Our sports programs run off of volunteer coaching. Parents must provide transportation to all events. Students must be 14 years of age or younger to participate in HCS sports and a small fee is required to help with referee fees.

School Families
Our eighth grade students are the leaders of school families, Preschool through eighth grade participate in school families. Each month a teacher develops a lesson or activity that is taught to the eighth grade students and they in turn present it to their school family. This is a great opportunity for the students to all get to know one another and for our students to become peer leaders.

Student Council
The Student Council is an organization comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Students are elected to the council each year, and attend regular meetings under the direction of the teacher moderator. Teachers assist in the development and maintenance of activities suitable for the student body. This is an effective means of developing leadership, a sense of responsibility, school spirit, and good citizenship among the students.

Academic Decathlon
The Academic Junior High Decathlon is a competition for students in grades 6-8. There are ten events. Two are collaborative team efforts – a logic quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a super quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes. The remaining eight events test individual knowledge of the Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and Music).
